What can I do for an optimum result in applying CLASSIC CAP/ALUMINA/POLUX and POLYMINA capsules? If the capsules sit too loosely on the bottle or show wrinkles or folds down the length, please check the following:
Remove and check the six pressure rollers of each spin head. Do the rollers run evenly? Are they abraded too strongly? Are they damaged? Use rollers in good condition only!
Use the following roller combination: 3 rubber rollers in back and 3 plastic rollers (RCH1000) in front. The plastic rollers must lead and have first contact with the bottle during application. The white plastic rollers (RCH1000) are available directly by VKN or the local VKN Sales Representative. If you are not absolutely sure about the make of your application unit, please give us the measurements according to the drawing. Only then can we warrant that you receive the correct size rollers for your application unit.
Prior to installing the new rollers, remove all oil and dust from the rods in the area of the rollers, apply fresh lubricant.
Should the capsules still show wrinkling after changing the rollers, increase the application pressure by moving the rubber bands forward in the direction of the rollers. Three bands are standard. Also check the bands for damage, i.e. are they porous, torn or too stiff due to aging. If necessary, replace the bands.
It is important that the brace pin holds the capsule tightly to the bottle during the complete application process. If not, the capsule will turn with the rollers, causing wrinkles in the skirt and abrasion of the top. In this case, replace the spring that puts pressure on the brace pin with a new or stronger spring. The springs are available from the manufacturer of the application unit.
When using a small manual applicator, whereby the operator moves the bottle into the spin head by hand, the operator defines the quality of the application. If wrinkles still appear, then the rhythm of application is too fast. Decrease the speed until the capsule apply wrinkle-free. The application results on fully automatic application units can be improved also by decreasing the bottle volume per hour. If the application result is still not satisfactory, please contact your local VKN Sales Representative or the VKN Service Technician Mr. Rech, Phone +49 (0) 61 35 / 7 11 88, directly, as there are more methods to increase the quality of application, such as changing the profile of the lead in combined labeling and application units or increasing the rotation speed of the spin heads.
